A New England Journey

Day 1: Boston, Massachusetts

Welcome to Boston a city often called "the cradle of American Independence." After your arrival at Logan International Airport, you will pick up your rental car and begin your New England journey! Your trip into the city from the airport should take 10-15 minutes depending on traffic conditions. When exiting the airport, follow signs to Boston and the Sumner Tunnel. Stay in the right hand lane of the Tunnel and, upon exiting, make an immediate sharp right onto Hanover Street. Continue straight until the end. Make a right turn onto Commercial Street. Proceed one quarter of a mile, bearing left towards the elevated expressway. Follow the signs to State Street.
Take a right onto State Street, and you will find The Harborside Inn located in the first building on the left. This charming inn with its eight-story skylit atrium and view of the waterfront will be the perfect introduction to your exploration of American history in Boston. You will need to unload your luggage, check in at the front desk and ask for directions to one of the nearby parking garages.

Faneuil Hall, Boston

Your inn is right next door to Faneuil Hall, the scene of many stirring gatherings during the Revolutionary movement. Today, Faneuil Market Place and the adjacent Quincy Market are a lively and colorful complex containing restaurants, boutiques, and produce stands. After a stroll in this area, one option for dinner is to choose from a variety of international taste treats within the Market area - deciding what to sample is the hardest part!

If, however, you are eager to experience traditional hearty New England atmosphere and fare (Indian pudding, baked beans, scrod or a prime rib), you will want to seek out Durgin Park Restaurant in the North Market Building of Faneuil Hall Market Place, where Bostonians have been dining since the area was actually a working market. For an even more historical flavor with your evening meal, walk up Union Street from Faneuil Hall and enter the city's oldest continuing restaurant, the Union Oyster House. John F. Kennedy was among its most noted patrons; his favorite booth has been dedicated to his memory.

An after-dinner stroll along the Boston Harbor before retiring for the evening should take you as far as stunning Rowes Wharf, offering perhaps the city's finest waterfront view.
